Bennett Inn is a colony (pre charter Inn). Students at the University of Calgary had successfully petitioned the Council of Phi Delta Phi International for the chartering of an Inn. However, at the initiation ceremony one of the requisite ten students was absent, and therefore the chartering did not occur.
Bennett Inn was proposed to be named after R.B. Bennett, the 11th Prime Minister of Canada. Prior to becoming Prime Minister, R.B. Bennett had practiced law in partnership with James Lougheed in Calgary and served as president of the Canadian Bar Association. He represented the riding of Calgary West in the House of Commons and served as Minister of Justice in the Meighen government before becoming leader of the Conservative party.
In order to finalize the chartering of Bennett Inn, it is necessary for current enrolled students to propose a slate of ten initiates for membership and approval by barrister members of Phi Delta Phi. Interested students should email the barrister alumnus at president@phideltaphicanada.ca for further guidance and assistance.
