Dickson Inn was granted its charter on August 17, 2001.
The Inn was named after Brian Dickson, the 15th Chief Justice of Canada. Litigation under the new Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms coincided with his tenure as Chief Justice. He was instrumental in developing the Charter jurisprudence that flowed from these cases. Brian Dickson had practiced as a lawyer in Winnipeg, and then later served on the Courts of Manitoba, becoming Chief Justice of the Manitoba Court of Appeal prior to his elevation to Supreme Court of Canada.
The founding of Dickson Inn was spearheaded by Brian Bowman, who prior to becoming Mayor of Winnipeg, was a leading lawyer in privacy law. Brian had also served as the volunteer Province President for Central Canada for Phi Delta Phi International.
The Barrister alumni remain prepared to assist students wishing to be involved In Dickson Inn. Interested students should email president@phideltaphicanada.ca.
